Late Nights at London Museums

The Natural History Museum in London is definitely worth a visit. As a start, I would recommend checking out the space and dinosaur sections, and then continuing upstairs and checking out the human evolution section.

Go along any day, though, and it's usually packed with kids and adults, all crammed together in true London style. There are lines to get into the more popular sections, which can become overwhelming after living in London, and, well, spending an inordinate percentage of your life standing in queues.

But there is a solution: a lot of museums offer late-night access at certain times - for instance the Tate Modern is open until 22:00 every Friday and Saturday.

At the Natural History Museum, there is late night access on the last Friday of each month which is totally worth attending. It is free to go and see the exhibits (although a lot of them are closed off, including the dinosaur exhibition). It's also not a wildly popular event, which means there are no children running underfoot, no school groups, and you nearly have the place to yourself! Take the time to browse through some collections, then wander over to the bar and have a drink on the terrace (Blankets included for cold winter nights).

There is also an exclusive bar which you need to have tickets to get into which sounds nearly worth it:

Meet our scientists and get up close and personal with their favourite, special specimens.
After your safari tour, visit the bar for a drink and chat to our scientists once they have put their specimens to bed.

I agree check out the late night openings, far less crowded and lots of fun.
