Niki With All Her Belongings

'Niki With All Her Belongings' is part of a photo series by Sannah Kvist, a Scandinavian artist.

It really makes you think about what you own, and what it says about your personality. Even without the girl Niki in the photo, the portrait would still clearly show what kind of person lives in that space. What you own is in some way a reflection of who you are, like it or not.

I guess the only thing missing here is that the artist has arranged the things - the best way to see a snapshot of someone is to see the things they own, and the way they live with them. Messy, orderly, colourful, childish, stylish, techy, cold, modern, wistful, chaotic?

Thinking about what I own, it's still not too much. I own (too many) clothes, postcards, muffin tins, suitcases - and one expensive laptop. No furniture - an advantage of London living where most flats are fully furnished.

But when I remember that I arrived in London 18 months ago with one 20KG suitcase, it's an impressive and scary increase. There is no way that I would be able to fit what I now own into one suitcase, never mind two . . .
